Hold on to your helmets, Star Wars fans! The fate of Din Djarin and Grogu might hinge on a showdown with a whole army of Stormtroopers! New promotional art for The Mandalorian and Grogu has just surfaced, giving us a tantalizing glimpse of what's to come. We see our favorite duo, Din Djarin (the Mandalorian) and Grogu (aka "The Child"), facing off against not just one, but three distinct classes of Stormtroopers – remnants of the fallen Empire still causing chaos across the galaxy.
Many fans were expecting a brand-new trailer to drop alongside the release of Avatar: Fire and Ash last month. Disappointingly, Disney opted to re-release the initial teaser, adding only a few fleeting shots of previously unseen footage. But don't lose hope!
Rumors are now swirling that a full-fledged trailer will finally debut during next month's Super Bowl. While this hasn't been officially confirmed, the emergence of this new promo art (courtesy of SFFGazette.com) definitely adds fuel to the fire. The artwork prominently features Din Djarin, Grogu, and, as mentioned, a diverse array of Imperial Stormtroopers. What could this mean for the plot, and how big a role will these Imperial remnants play in the movie?
The film is widely speculated to center on Din Djarin and Grogu embarking on a perilous mission to rescue Rotta the Hutt. However, it's clear that the remnants of the Empire will be a major force to be reckoned with. And this is the part most people miss... Hopefully, Jon Favreau (the director) will use this opportunity to further illuminate Grogu's mysterious past, specifically how he ended up in the clutches of those bounty hunters we saw in The Mandalorian Season 1.
There was a time when some fans theorized that The Mandalorian series might even serve as an origin story for Supreme Leader Snoke, a theory that, if true, would have made the stakes immeasurably higher. Moff Gideon's cloning operations certainly seemed to be connected to Emperor Palpatine's eventual return, but this subplot seemingly concluded with Gideon's demise in Season 3. But here's where it gets controversial... Was Gideon truly defeated, or are there other Imperial loyalists still carrying out his dark designs?
Even with Gideon gone, significant gaps remain in Grogu's backstory. For instance, what became of Jedi Master Kelleran Beq, who rescued Grogu from the Jedi Temple during Order 66? Will we finally get some answers?
Adding even more intrigue, Pedro Pascal, the star of the show, playfully dodged questions about the film at Star Wars Celebration last April. "I know everything that there is to know, and I’m not gonna tell you any of it because I want you to experience it," he teased. "I want everyone to experience the incredible surprises that are in store in one of the greatest adventure movies that has ever been made. I mean that."
The overarching narrative of The Mandalorian and Grogu places our heroes in a galaxy where the once-mighty Empire has crumbled, leaving behind scattered Imperial warlords. The New Republic, still in its infancy, struggles to safeguard the freedoms won by the Rebellion. To aid in this daunting task, they've enlisted the help of Din Djarin, the legendary Mandalorian bounty hunter, and his Force-sensitive apprentice, Grogu.
Jon Favreau is at the helm as director, with Kathleen Kennedy, Dave Filoni, and Ian Bryce serving as producers. Adding to the film's pedigree, Ludwig Göransson, the acclaimed composer behind the series' iconic score, returns to provide the music.
Get ready for an action-packed adventure! The Mandalorian and Grogu promises to be the duo's most thrilling mission yet. This all-new Star Wars adventure from Lucasfilm is being filmed for IMAX and will premiere exclusively in theaters on May 22, 2026.
