Non-profit, Huntsville Police and others are hosting a ‘Community Field Day’ in North Huntsville

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WHNT) — Local non-profit organization NuGeneration, Inc. partnered with the Huntsville Parks and Recreation Department and the Huntsville Police Department to celebrate “Community Field Day” on Saturday.
NuGeneration founder George S. Sapp told News 19 that the occasion was to celebrate the second anniversary of a program that works with local law enforcement. african american youth.
“What we’re really trying to convey here is that we’re all together, we’re all one family,” Sapp said.
Organizers, including the Huntsville Police Citizens’ Advisory Committee, welcomed North Huntsville families to the ball diamonds of the Dr. Richard Showers Center to participate in the inaugural event’s children’s stations, play sports, makeup and even free clothing and snack stalls.
“And so we have the Huntsville Police Department here represented. We have police officers on leave with us who take advantage of this. And then we have people from north of Huntsville and all over town. We just want to make sure everyone understands that we can all get along.
“We want our officers to be here with members of the community, the kids, the Lee High School football team,” added HPD Deputy Chief Dewayne McCarver. “We just want to get out here, play sports, kind of let go and be one with our community – because we have to remind them that we’re nothing more than a part of the community.”
